Question by M D: Nursing Path Question, College Choice. Years In School?
Hi there! just wondering how long it would take to become a nurse anesthesiologist? I’ve always been intrested in the field, but have been wondering about the schools, and time in school. I’m genuinly inteested in the career, but i wanna know how long it takes to become a nursing anesthesiologist?
And, i’ve been thinking Mcgill in montreal for college. (How hard is it to get in, and is it good?)

In typical situations, it takes 4 years to get the required Bachelor in Nursing degree, then they require you to have a year or two experience in Intensive care nursing, and then you have to get your Master’s degree (Nurse Anesthetist) which takes 2 years if full time student. The schooling itself alltogether is 6 years, and that’s not counting the experience you need as a Critical/Intensive care RN.

I heard np’s have it great because they have a high degree of autonomy, can write prescriptions, are well-paid, and are needed pretty much everywhere (as you mentioned). My aunt is an np, and she says it’s the closest thing to being a doc without going to medical school or doing osteopathy. I’m not sure a medical lab job has as many perks, especially if you’re a people person…

Question by dragon52: I have a choice of two nursing programs – Boston College vs Gettysburg College (PA). Which is better? Why?
I’m currently accepted into both Boston College (BC) and Gettysburg College’s (GC) nursing programs. Costs are similar (both around $ 40-45K/yr). GC is offering $ 13K in scholarship funds; BC, $ 380. My (and my parents) want to know, if finances can be worked out, which one would better prepare me for the nursing career I’m pursuing. I’ve never visited either campus and am hoping someone can ‘open my eyes’ a bit to the pros/cons of attending one or the other. I need to make my decision by May1. In advance, thanks so much for your feedback.

Hey. I visted BC recently. It is a beautiful campus- great architecture, nice landscaping, etc. The school has a very religious feel to it however, so you have to make sure that’s your thing. Both colleges have good reps, although BC’s rep is better. Honestly, the nursing profession is experiencing such a shortage that you’ll find work if you go to either school. I’ve never visited Gettysburg so I can’t help you there. You should really try to visit the schools if you can.
BC= a really smart, talented study body, big student involvement, beautiful campus, pretty cold climate, religious

In general, the more education you have the more salary you can earn. So I recommend the BSN and becoming a R.N. Later, you may wish to pursue a MSN degree, as well.
Best wishes.

Question by Jennifer: What college would be a better choice for the nursing program Antelope Valley college or Pasadena city College?
The reason I am asking is because I’m not sure if I should stay an AVC or move to pasadena to go to PCC. PCC seems like a nice shool. I just want more confirmation on what school would be better off for me and which school has an incredible nursing program.

Community college is the better choice, you can get your RN. At a technical school the highest achievements offered are usually CNA.
