I believe you have to have training to be an LPN or Phlebotomist, I’ve known people who have gone to school for both. Maybe you could be a CNA, I don’t believe that requires college, but you would have to take a training course for it.

Question by Constantly Curious: Would working at a nursing home as a housekeeper help prepare me for a job as a nurse after high school?
I am too young to be a CNA, and our school does not have a HOSA. I know that I will be cleaning up bodily fluids as well, but, hey maybe it will make me appreciate what I have later on in life.
also, what will I be doing?
Will I be able to make a patients day a little bit brighter??

Absolutely! Any job in a healthcare environment will be helpful in preparation to be a nurse or any career in the healthcare field.
Being a housekeeper will provide you with a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the healthcare environment. Also, when you become a nurse, you will have a much deeper appreciation for the hard work that the housekeepers do!
Yes, you will be able to make a patient’s day brighter. I work at a hospital and know that housekeepers have an incredibly important job. A cheery hello while cleaning a room can have a big impact on a patient. Also…statistics show that patients will frequently open up and share information with housekeepers that they might not share with other members of the healthcare staff – like an abusive home situation. So, you see… ALL members of the team are important.

Question by k.webb: I want to start a nursing career with just a high school diploma. I don’t want to take any basic college?
classes that don’t lead me directly into the nursing field. I might be willing to take them later on for advancement. Right now I want on the job training in nursing withiout college. Once I get hired doing something in the job field, I will continue my education. YOu see, I work full time and have a family. What do I need to do to get the ball rolling? I just don’t have time right now for algebra, but I definitely need a better job. Anyone help?

Nobody will hire a nurse without training. Go to school like all the other future nurses.

Question by Kirsten: What classes in high school are important to take for nursing in college?
I’m a senior in high school and this summer I’ve decided i’ve wanted to go into nursing and become a nurse practitioner. I’m stumped on what classes to take. I will graduate with taking Honors biology, honors chemistry and this year I”m taking Anatomy. I’m currently signed up to take AP Biology but I’m debating on weather or nopt to drop it and take physics because every college website reccomends taking physics before college. I’m just so confused onb what to do and I dont know if by not taking AP Biology that will hurt my chances of becoming what i want to be.

Does your school offer physiology or sports medicine? Both will help for those pursuing the medical profession.

Question by Victoria W: I’m a high school senior interested in pediatric oncology nursing but I have no idea what to expect in college?
I’m a high school senior that’s very interested in becoming a pediatric oncology nurse. Possibly a R.N. or P.N. I don’t really know what to expect from the courses, exactly how difficult are they? And about how long do they take to complete? Any help about this topic will do, I’m pretty lost and not very informed so any information would be great!

To answer your question, the first 2 years of school are the easier years with all you basic classes
English 1
English 2
World Lit
Other Electives Such As
World History
Political Science
Communication Course
Psychology
Sociology
Human Growth & Development
Science Course
A&P 1 & 2
Chem 1 & 2 ( with an organic component)
Microbiology ( with a lab component)
What courses are “required” all depend on the nursing school you would like to attend. Alot of nursing schools have different pre-recs they want you to complete.
I personally choose to go to a smaller community college to save money, but if you want to go to a big university it is your choice.
Just remember nursing school now is very competitive so keep your GPA up. Don’t let partying or drinking ruin your chances of getting into nursing school by affecting your GPA.
My advice I am in nursing school right now and my goal is also to become a pediatric nurse. For me when I was a freshman and sophomore until now I volunteered at a children’s hospital for the experience. This a great idea to see if you really want to work with children because it can be very difficult.
If you have a children’s hospital near you, you should ask if they have a volunteer program.
Go get your BSN in nursing and don’t let anything stop you
What to expect for nursing school, it is VERY Hard! If your driven and study hard, get tutoring, etc… you can make it happen.
Good luck!

Question by Katie: Is there any nursing assistant jobs I can do when I’m only 16 and still in high school?
I’m going to be a senior in the fall then I am interested in becoming a Physician’s Assistant. But until then I am looking for a job and I’d really like to start in the medical field. I would not be bothered by doing the unappealing jobs in a hospital like emptying pee buckets or whatever. Any ideas? I’m not looking to go to a school for this I have no experience
