Question by Dan: Is Chamberlain College of Nursing a good school or waste of time and money?
I live in Ohio and I have been trying for the longest time to get into a nursing program or any program. I just want to get into a health sciences program ASAP and finish so I can get my life going. I was turned onto Chamberlain College of Nursing because it seems like it would be easy to get into and can be done online if you would like. I just need to know if it is worth the time and money or if I will just be wasting my time? If you have heard things or experienced things with or about this program please help me out. I am open to other colleges of recommendation or programs of recommendation. A little about me that may help. I am male, have many prerequisites finished, had a 3.8 gpa coming out of high school, intersted in health programs such as nursing, radiation therapy, medical sonography, radiologic technology, pretty much anything in the health field. I just want a high paying job where I can work in the medical field helping other and I would like to get it finished in the next 2 or 3 years. Thank you for any help you can give me!

Question by more than words: I want to be a nurse when I am older so I am wondering do nurses make good money?
and I heard that nurses don’t have lives because they must always be on call for work. Is this true? Can nurses make their own hours? And is it easy to find a job as a nurse right now or is the medical industry packed tight?

Most people do it for money.
Nurse is hottest job in US, associate degree RN can make $ 120K a year in CA, much more than Lawyer, Professor, Mayor.
In Silicon Valley, no body wants to be engineer, IT ,Nano, Biotech…only want to be nurse. The fastest and easiest way to make money, and many patients don’t pay the bill( real astronomical money), insurance pay it and increase premium every year and Many American companies outsoursing other countries.
But most nurse don’t want to care patients, it is just a artistic slogan to say it.

Question by ThaGurl87: So a dental hygienist really makes more money than a registered nurse?
Say for example, two people fresh out of college. One is to be a Registered Nurse, the other to be a Dental Hygienist. They both find a job. The nurse decides to work at a hospital and the other is to work in a dentists office. Starting out, which one is making more money?? Thanks

No hygienists make about the same as a nurse or less. Usually nurses can make more money than a hygienist.
Also right now with the economy it is hard to find a hygiene job. Because when people lose their jobs they lose their dental insurance. And the first thing people will stop doing is getting professional cleanings at a dental office.
I am a hygienist, graduated last year and I havent been able to find work until this past Jan! And I only work 1 day a week because I cant find more work than that.
Nursing is a better profession. Hospitals and nursing homes always need nurses in the USA. Starting out nurses and hygienists make about the same money. It also depends on where you live. Higher pay as you look for work closer to major cities.

Question by Andreita: How much money could a nurse make in Morelia Michoacan Mexico?

I am a retired R. N. living in Mexico. I have been told R.N.’s make about $ 100.00 a week in Mexico. That may vary place to place, but it is definetly true that you would make only a small fraction of what you can make in the United States. You would be much better off to work in the United States, save up and make trips to Mexico when you are able. When you finish school, you could work for a couple of years in a hospital, get good experience, then become a “traveller” in the states if you like. Travelling nurses usually make a higher wage and have 3 month assignments. Then you could take 3 months at a time off if you like to travel to Mexico. It is also difficult to get a work visa in Mexico, and your standard of living would be Waaayy lower here on what you could earn here. Actually, i believe you should get a good job with a great retirement plan…then after 20 yrs…when you are eligible for your pension…you can move to Mexico and live quite well!
