Question by Sammi Raven: How old do you have to be to be a nurse’s aide in a nursing home?
I was just wondering about this because I’m thinking about getting a job as a nurse’s aide. Given, I’m old enough. I’m seventeen years old.
So if anyone knows, please leave an answer. Thanks. (:

A lot are restricting to 18 and older because of the lifts that you cannot use until you are 18 but there are still some that can do any age. It depends on the agency.

Question by Roll Tide Roll!!: Nursing jobs for a fresh grad?
Hi! I’m in nursing school at the moment and I’ve been kinda job shopping just to see what I can expect when I get out and researching different experience requirements, but what I’ve found is that (it seems like) 99.99999% of places require at least 1 year of experience.
My question is what kind of jobs are available for fresh nursing grads? And what jobs are best for fresh grads?
My goal is to be a med-surg nurse for a while before working on CC for 2 years and going for a CRNA. I really love operating rooms. I know that’s odd, but it’s always been a dream of mine to me near surgery. Lol

You should talk with your school adviser or counselor, but with the nursing shortage you shouldn’t have any problems getting a job. Good Luck!

I know of another teen who works at the nursing home as a dietary aid (cleaning dishes, etc) but what else? Cleaning, changing diapers, stocking supplies? And how do I go about getting a job there? Do I just show up and say I want a job there?
I am 15, by the way…16 in less than 3 months

Yes you can go there and say that you’re willing ot assist in the nursing home. I am not sure what they would be able to get you since there are some thing that you cannot do at your age.

Question by flying traveler: Nursing jobs at prisons?
I want to get a nursing degree and work as a nurse at a prison. Should I get a MENTAL HEALTH NURSING degree or should I get a ‘REGULAR’ NURSING degree? Personally I’d prefer to get the mental health one but I’m worried that there aren’t a lot of job opportunities at prisons for mental health nurses….so would it be much much easier for me to get a job at a prison as a ‘regular’ nurse?

Answer by Just Me
To work as a nurse in prison, you need to have qualified as a registered nurse and preferably be registered in adult, mental health or learning disabilities.
Hope this helps.

Question by raymond_1265: Should I go to Community College or 4 year college for Nursing?
I’m graduating in two months and I want to become a nurse. I applied to some universities around here (Seton Hall, Rutgers) and I got declined by all of them. I have a 3.6 GPA but my SAT score was a 1350. I got accepted into Farleigh Dickinson and Dominican College. At FDU, I didn’t get accepted into their School of Nursing, but I can apply to it after taking the basic courses needed for Nursing. At Dominican College, I got into their Nursing Program with a scholarship. I applied to Bergen Community for Nursing but I didn’t get into the Nursing Program, should I go to BCC, take my gen. ed. courses then apply to their nursing program? What’s the best thing to do? Thanks in advanced! Sorry if it’s too much to read!

I definitely recommend checking out the community college. It typically costs less and is a great way to knock out your gen eds while paying less. If you work hard and do well, it’ll make you a more attractive candidate when you decide to reapply to the nursing program. You’ll have more money in your pocket (or less debt) and an associate’s degree to boot.

Question by danielle esch: How hard is it to go to nursing school and play college soccer?
I am a senior in high school and college is right around the corner for me. I plan on going to college for nursing seeing as that has been my dream job for a while now. The only problem I have is that I am also interested in playing soccer at college. I already a couple of colleges that have contacted me that want me to play for them. The only problem is my mom, who is also a nurse, is totally against me playing soccer in college because she thinks that it will take up too much time from my studies and I won’t do good in nursing school. I was pretty confident that I would be able to juggle both soccer in school in college since I have done it all my life with high school (I have a 4.1 GPA and take AP and honors classes while playing club and high school soccer) but my mom keeps telling me how hard nursing school is and that I would have to choose one or the other and that im not aloud to choose both. So my question is: How hard is nursing school really? and do you think I would be able balance it out with studying and playing soccer at the same time? I am having a hard time deciding if i should give up soccer, which i really don’t want to do, but I will if it will interfere with my future.

well I’m assuming your not in running start and will be new to college credits, that being said, you technically won’t jump straight into nursing school. You’ll more than likely take from a year to two years taking basic prereqs like anatomy, chem, and english. If you are passionate at both, I say go for it. The prereqs are the easy part, now I can’t say how hard nursing school is because I have yet to start but I’ve finished my 2 years of prereqs for the BSN program and you will be able to juggle fine if you make time to study also. I have heard of so many mothers going back to school and I’m sure thats harder to juggle then soccer, so if you set your mind to it, then you can do it. PLENTY of other people are juggling more, and you seem pretty smart so you should be fine, just explain to your mom maybe make her a deal if you don’t get at least a 3.2 gpa your first semester then you’ll quit soccer or something. Good luck with everything, hope this helps!

Question by bostonboy16: I picked “Nursing” as my college major, but want to become a dotor. (READ BELOW)
I did this so in case I do not become a physician, I can still fall back on my nursing degree.
Was this a good idea?

Answer by musesick44
yes.
a doctor, is VERY ambitious. Its years upon years of straight A’s
you should consider the nursing major actually because they make money, and there is a need for nurses currently so you will be hired somewhat quickly, and you don’t have to go through all the stressful years of doctor schooling
