Question by islandgirl16: What colleges offer good nursing bachelor programs?
I’m a freshman in my second semester and I’m worried that I won’t get into the nursing program at my college. Are there any schools you recommend have great nursing programs with BSN.

Answer by Diane Carbo RN
As a RN of 35 years, I am a diploma RN. The present day BSN programs focus on getting you to pass your boards and does not prepare you for life as an RN.
More important than worrying if you are going to be accepted into your college program, what is your college NCLEX pass rate? I find that many programs, even the high paid private colleges, have poor pass rates. many do little to nothing to support those that struggle to pass the NCLEX once they have passed you through their program and have taken your money.
My suggestion to you. is do not sweat the small stuff. If you do not get accepted into your program, consider taking a community college program that has a good reputation. Get your associates degree, then go onto to get your BSN.
This will give you the ability to have your future employer pay for your future education.
If you are hell bent on getting your BSN right away, check out the pass/fail rates of NCLEX at the colleges in your area.
If you work in health care, ask the nurses where the best programs are. Interview the nurse managers and ask where do they see the best new grads gradate from and is there any program that they would recommend.
Nurses are very opinionated and will be very open about this subject.
i would also recommend that you start checking out Magnet Status facilities. These hospitals promote nursing and your experience in these types of facilities will be unlike any other hospital experience.
Check out if there are internships available at these hospitals. This is where you may want to pursue working as a CNA to get experience and have an “in” at the facility level.
Nursing is a very tough field. I have a son that after the military went onto attending community college for the first 2 years ( to save money) and then transferred to a private college for his last 2 years.
He graduated last May and is presently working full time in SICU in the largest teaching hospital in the country. He is working to start his master in anesthesiology.
Good luck in your future as an RN. Be smart and do your homework. Actually, when it all comes down to it, no one care where you graduate from, they just care that you passed your boards. You want a program that gives you the practical clinical experience and the knowledge to feel confident to practice nursing once you graduate.

Question by starryeyed75: Why would a college offer nursing classes for PN (practical nursing) rather than LPN?
Licensed Practical Nursing
Best answer:
Answer by bookshop_lady
What college are you referring to?
I can only guess, since I haven’t seen the school’s web site or catalog or curriculum, that the school refers to their courses as Practical Nursing to differentiate them from their classes that are part of their 2-year associate in applied science in nursing program. At the end of the Practical Nursing program, you can take an exam to become licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse. The program itself doesn’t provide the license.
If you look at colleges that offer a 2-year associate degree in nursing or a 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing, they don’t call their schools or their classes “Registered Nursing” because the students aren’t registered nurses until they finish the program and pass the NCLEX exam.

Question by emandem: is there a adn jobs offer now in canada?as adn nurse, am i qualified to take a canadian nurse licence exam?
i finish my associate degree nursing in philippines, and im working on my papers now to be in canada and take this said exam c.r.n.e. am i qualified to take this exam as adn nurse ?thanks so much
Best answer:
Answer by Z
Not likely. Standards and practices are sufficiently different that your Philippine qualifications won’t quite allow you to take any Canadian exams. You would need to check with the nursing association of whatever province applies to you.
Canada has about 1 and a half million (yes, that’s 1,500,000) unemployed citizens some of whom are nurses. What few jobs there may be won’t go to foreigners but to one of our own people so you’re up against a lot of other Canadian nurses.

opportunity available to you is training for U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Medical Support, which entails setting up, stocking, and running remote hospitals or medical provisions in austere locations that may be in high-operations areas, including combat zones and places hit by natural disasters.
Air Force nursing offers a world of other practice locations and leadership opportunities. As an Air Force nurse, you can relocate every 3 to 4 years to assignments in the United States and abroad, or sometimes stay longer at one location.
On completion of the nurse transition program, you’ll enter into one of two initial practice settings, medical-surgical or obstetrics-gynecology. Then once you’ve mastered basic nursing knowledge, you’ll have the opportunity to experience other areas.
