The primary college MUST have a school of nursing to become a nurse; so that should be your primary focus. The minors in general are only a handful of classes, so any relatively decent university should have a sociology minor (its a pretty general degree–like biology, nothing too unique).

Can you have a major in either biology or sociology to become a pediatric nurse practitioner?

Question by Brianna: Can you have a major in either biology or sociology to become a pediatric nurse practitioner?
My dream is to become a pediatric nurse practitioner but certain schools don’t offer nursing as a major for undergraduate degrees. So if i get a major in biology or sociology can that help me become a pediatric nurse practitioner?

Nope. You need to become an RN first, which requires a degree in nursing, either an Associates degree or a BSN, depending on your state. Then you go for the MSN or DNP to become a nurse practitioner.
You will need to attend a school that offers a degree in nursing.

How to become a nurse with a Bachelor degree in Sociology?

Question by shelly39280: How to become a nurse with a Bachelor degree in Sociology?
I’m thinking about becoming a nurse (RN), but was wondering what kind of education is needed? I have a Bachelor in Sociology. I’m not sure what area specifically I’d like to work in but somewhere along the lines of the ER or in the pediatrics department of the hospital. Does my Sociology degree give me a step up or do I have to start all over and get a BA in nursing?

Sorry, but you need that BS in nursing to become an official nurse. There are some nursing programs out there, like CNA (certified nursing assistant), etc. But yeah… go back to school. I’m sure that most of the requirements for your sociology degree would satisfy the nursing degree, so you’re probably looking at an additional 2 years of schooling. CNA certificates take usually less than 6 mos.
