What can a unlicensed nurse temporarily work as while waiting for the time to take the NCLEX exam?

Question by diamondblue81: What can a unlicensed nurse temporarily work as while waiting for the time to take the NCLEX exam?
I just recently graduated nursing and now I’m looking for a job that suits my skills and knowledge. I’ve just applied for NCLEX so that I can get my license, but would like to work while I’m waiting. What kind of jobs are available to me, related to my nursing skills and knowledge? Thanks and all answers are greatly appreciated.

In most cases employers will hire you to work while you wait to test, unless you don’t plan on testing for a long period of time. Most hospitals have orientation and training that can last a few months so that should give you time to test and receive your license.

Are you a CNA, you can always work as that.

im not entirely clear on what your asking..but i gather that you are going to be a LVN/LPN..??

assuming this is what you mean….
you will def still need more classes to be an RN. if you go for 2-yr associates RN, there will be less classes than if you go for BSN/RN (4yr).
I am graduating with BSN/RN this summer and i have taken 2 physics w/ lab, 2 chem w/ labs, 3 bios w/ labs, microbiology w/ lab, 2 anatomy/physiology w/ labs and a bunch of other non-science pre-reqs.
A girl in my class is an LPN and she only got out of taking ONE CLASS!!! she took all of the same nursing courses as the rest of us who aret LPN/LVNs!

Also, vocational credits dont often transfer to accredited RN nursing programs. In LPN/VN school you will have microbiology but it is abbreviated and their is not lab associated with it. For RN graduation requiremetns you must have micro w/ lab. so..the micro that you already took wont count for anything ;(

some of it makes sense, but alot of it is just a money game!

best of luck, hope this helps

Question by Michelle: Should I take French if I am planning to become a nurse?
I’m not that interested in French, so do I really need it to become a nurse? Would it help in getting jobs if I did take it?

thanks!

No….unless you’re going to work in France, then it’s a good idea. All you generally need is English, Math, Chem and Biology, depending on what uni you’re going with.

Where are my job options as a newly qualified UK nurse?? Am I left with working abroad? Where will take me?

Question by fairyonthegrass: Where are my job options as a newly qualified UK nurse?? Am I left with working abroad? Where will take me?
I am a general nursing student in my third year due to qualify in september 2007. I am stuck for what to do? My hometown of sheffield is apparently a blackspot for nursing jobs so i’m highly unlikely to get a job here. I’ve looked elsewhere but I am considering now working abroad. How would i go about working in places like austrailia, NZ, saudi, dubai, america? Do these places take on newly qualifieds with no post grad experience?? Please help i’m at such a loss of what to do…

Q&A: what classes should i take senior year if i want to major in nursing in college?

Question by Caitlyn S: what classes should i take senior year if i want to major in nursing in college?
What classes should i take in high school if i want to major in nursing in college?
i heard that these are the classes you should take in high school:

biology (already took it)
chemistry (already took it)
physics
algebra (already took it and algebra 2)
statistics
english (already took it every year, but i can take physcology in literature or journalism this year)
physcology (taking AP)
sociology
health class
a foreign language (second year of spanish, already had 2 years of french, but would rather not take it…is it that important?)

which of those do you DEFINATLY need to take in high school or will be taking in college? i am just wondering becuase i think i need to change some classes i am taking for this senior year (pre-calc and earth science when i should be taking statistics and physics?) any help thanks!

Answer by MHnurseC
Yes, these are classes that you would take in college, however, it helps to have as much exposure to this material as possible. Taking them in high school will not provide you with college credit, unless you are taking the AP classes.

I want to start a nursing career with just a high school diploma. I don’t want to take any basic college?

Question by k.webb: I want to start a nursing career with just a high school diploma. I don’t want to take any basic college?
classes that don’t lead me directly into the nursing field. I might be willing to take them later on for advancement. Right now I want on the job training in nursing withiout college. Once I get hired doing something in the job field, I will continue my education. YOu see, I work full time and have a family. What do I need to do to get the ball rolling? I just don’t have time right now for algebra, but I definitely need a better job. Anyone help?

Nobody will hire a nurse without training. Go to school like all the other future nurses.

Wanting to take nursing as my major in college, I have questions!!?

Question by Kathrine46: Wanting to take nursing as my major in college, I have questions!!?
It would be great if some one can help me out with this!

So I love helping kids, so eventually I want to be a pediatric nurse. What are the steps that I need to take to eventually get this job? :)
Would a trade school be okay? What school should I go to?

Best answer:

Answer by Juli
To work in Pediatrics as a nurse, you need to become an RN. You can do that with either an Associate Degree, a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSN), or a Diploma from one of the remaining 3-year, hospital-based programs.

If the “trade school” is more like a community college that offers an Associate Degree in Nursing and is accredited by the NLN, you should be fine: http://www.nlnac.org/Forms/directory_search.htm

If the school you are considering is one of those over-priced “career schools”…..forget it!

Any nursing program you are considering needs to have current accreditation from either the NLN,
or if it’s a BSN program; the CCNE:http://apps.aacn.nche.edu/CCNE/reports/accprog.asp

2nd degree student want to take Nursing prereqs. University OR Community College ?

Question by jmlucie: 2nd degree student want to take Nursing prereqs. University OR Community College ?
I already have a BA but I want to go for Nursing ( accelerated BNS/MNS) , I’m wondering if it’s ok or possible to do my prereqs at a community college or would that be frowned upon by the admission comitee? Or should I take them at a regular 4 years college. I am triying to save money and time . Help me please !!!!!!

Best answer:

Answer by thedipnetter
I’m in your same situation, except for Chiropractic School. What did was I asked an admissions advisor if they would accept community college credits and the answer was yes. And if you have a degree already that will be something they look at. Also, maybe see if you can get conditionally accepted with the credits you have now, that way you won’t have to worry about taking expensive classes at an university.

What classes in high school are important to take for nursing in college?

Question by Kirsten: What classes in high school are important to take for nursing in college?
I’m a senior in high school and this summer I’ve decided i’ve wanted to go into nursing and become a nurse practitioner. I’m stumped on what classes to take. I will graduate with taking Honors biology, honors chemistry and this year I”m taking Anatomy. I’m currently signed up to take AP Biology but I’m debating on weather or nopt to drop it and take physics because every college website reccomends taking physics before college. I’m just so confused onb what to do and I dont know if by not taking AP Biology that will hurt my chances of becoming what i want to be.

Does your school offer physiology or sports medicine? Both will help for those pursuing the medical profession.
