Question by paul: Stay in University or transfer to Community College -Nursing?
Currently, I am in Western Washington University (WWU). They don’t have a Nursing major only a “pre-nursing” program. I am a Freshman but with my credits Im a sophmore.
I currently havvve about 75 credits (45 were transfered credits from highschool). I almost have all of my GURs done and I need to declare a major soon. Since there is no specific nursing major, I have to declare something else (such as Bio major, Chem major, Kinesiology major, Health majors etc.)
My question is…
1) Should I leave WWU to go to a Community college and get an ASN then work at a nearby hospital to gain some hands-on experience than go back to school to become a higher nurse (such as nurse practitioner)
OR
2) Stay in WWU and declare a major (I also don’t know which one) by the end of spring quarter 09′ and graduate at WWU (getting a BSN), then recieve my 3-year direct mastery to another school to recieve my MSN (which lets be become a direct Nurse practitioner)
So basically, Should I stay in WWU? Or Transfer to a Community College?
If you have any ideas for a major for nursing I would also like to hear that =D

I think you should take the course that will take the least amount of time to reach your goal, then if you wish to go back to school and continue your education who knows if the hospital or organization you find a job with could pay some of those costs. I would take less time same degree.

Question by Melinda: Can I transfer to a 4 year university if I go to Bergen community college and major in nursing?
I’m really confused with all this …can someone plz help?
Best answer:
Answer by Higher Ed Professional
Yes, you could transfer. Bergen has articulation agreements with Dominican College, New Jersey City University, and Mercy College, amongst others. You would be able to continue your education through any of those three once you received your Associate’s. You could also apply to other colleges, though be aware that many nursing programs do not accept non-articulated transfers.

Question by Wrexford: should i get my adn first at community college? then transfer and take a adn to bsn in nursing?
i need help. i want to work right away and the community does not have lvn they have a adn at cabrillo college in santa cruz. im coming out of highschool.
Best answer:
Answer by Chris F
Well if you want to get to work right away you should do your adn then do your bsn that way you can work while getting your bsn and make money while you’re in school. I do suggest that you go straight for your BSN though there are more job oppertunities to those with bsn’s than adn’s.

Question by deanna: How do I transfer to nursing university from a community college?
Right now I attend community college and i want to transfer ASAP!!!!! I hate it so much. But anyway I have a 3.6 gpa and the classes i have taken so far are:
Writing, intermediate algebra (i’m awful at math but i am taking college algebra), psychology, biology, drugs people and problems, history, English 1, and computers and technology. I want to go to nursing school and i took these classes because I have talked to many schools and they said to take a general education course load because its next to impossible to transfer into a nursing program….BUT some schools have told me different so idk. I want to transfer to a REALLY good/reputable school because my dream job is to work at Mass General hospital in boston and quite frankly they dont take just anyone. I struggled through high school but for some reason im doing extremely well in college. Basically does anyone know are those classes ok because ive heard many different things? With my gpa could i transfer into a really good school? What are some good nursing colleges (if you happen to know any)? If worst came to worst i would just get my RN at community college and then go to a RN to BSN program…how do those work? Any opinions would help greatly…Thank you!

Transfers are at the discretion of the university – some will accept all courses, some will only accept selected courses. What you need to do right now is contact the university you want to attend, take your transcripts with you, and find out which courses you will be given credit for, and which ones you will have to re-take.

Question by Eric.: For all nursing majors: Could you transfer from a private to a public college?
I’m currently attending APU (Azusa Pacific University) as a freshmen and trying to get into the nursing program next spring. However I feel like this is not the school that I would feel most comfortable at and was thinking about transferring to another nursing program maybe at (UCI, UCLA). I know I probably should go talk to my schools office but I was just curious and wanted to know right now. So is this possible or not since my school and the UC’s are way different?

Nursing programs are exceptionally competitive at the UCs.
UCLA – Nursing – Generic/Prelicensure. Transfer admit rate is approximately 11.5% (Fall 2009). There is a ranked waiting list for the nursing applicants who are not initially accepted. Alternate major is NOT considered.
Irvine – Nursing Science. Transfer admit rate is approximately 5.6% (Fall 2008). There is NO waiting list for the nursing applicants who are denied admission. Alternate major is considered if the student qualified for UCI admission but was not accepted for nursing.

Question by dreamcatchrgurl8: Stay or transfer to diff college/university for nursing program?
I am currently a nursing student at MCPHS. Is it worth transferring to a different school for their nursing program? Would Umass Boston be a good option? I want to save money and I’ve already passed anatomy, basic chemistry, alg&trig, intro to psych…

UMass is a good option but there are certain prerequisites that need to be completed at UMass before you can get into their nursing program. UMass is less money. The links below will give you a lot more information as to transferring requirements.
