whats better medical technologist or nurse?

Question by Daniel K: whats better medical technologist or nurse?
I cant make up my mind, although I’d rather work in a Laboratory (I think because its more scientific based thinking) I just can’t make up my mind. Is it just as easy to get jobs as a medical technologist than a Nurse? Any help would be helpful.

Depends on what your definition of better is. Becoming an MT is definitely quicker, as it can be provided by a hospital and is on the job training or just one semester of schooling. Becoming a nurse requires at least 2 years of schooling which has a higher initial cost, but you end up with a much higher paying job.

I heard np’s have it great because they have a high degree of autonomy, can write prescriptions, are well-paid, and are needed pretty much everywhere (as you mentioned). My aunt is an np, and she says it’s the closest thing to being a doc without going to medical school or doing osteopathy. I’m not sure a medical lab job has as many perks, especially if you’re a people person…

Whats it like being a pediatric or neonatal nurse?

Question by Bink_31: Whats it like being a pediatric or neonatal nurse?
I’m going off to college in a few years and I was thinking about what I want to do, and i figured out that I want to be a nurse. Now i love kids and babies, so I wanna work as a pediatric nurse or a neonatal nurse. Can someone please tell me what these jobs are like, and what an average day consists of. Also which field do you think is better to go into.
Thanks for your answers in advance!

Answer by Diane A
It doesn’t matter from an education standpoint, as all RNs are trained the same and you specialize afterwards. However, be aware exactly what is involved. You are not spending your day playing with health happy kids. For peds you are mostly providing care to a sick, often gravely ill child along with worried parents. Neonatal nurses often provide all around care to the laboring woman, who is not in the hospital very long and the baby rooms with here. You would care for the infant only when mom is resting. You would be staring IVs, giving medications, cleaning up, charting, helping with procedures etc. You might want to become a nurses assistant (CNA) first to see what is really involved. There are other pediatric nursing positions, but you usually have to start in the hospital first. If you volunteer in the hospital as well, you might find another field you really love; within a pediatric hospital are many positions other than just nursing.

What’s a great alternate career for someone who took up Nursing in college?

Question by hittenbontakun: What’s a great alternate career for someone who took up Nursing in college?
Got forced into taking up a BS in Nursing when I went into college for the most part, so obviously it’s not really my thing. Now that I’m a graduate though, I have the freedom now to do what I want for a career.

Just to make sure though if I was really sure about taking up another career, I worked for about 6 months after graduation as a nurse, and confirmed it to myself afterward that despite the financial stability, the whole thing just didn’t appeal to me as a long term career.

So anyway, I’m looking for something that’s related into computers/ technology, but can be tied in also with the medical knowledge I have accrued from Nursing. Any careers/ jobs that come to mind that fit those details?

I looked up Nursing Informatics also, but it says that I need years of field experience for that, something which I really don’t really find fond of going through.
If any of you are working in that field though and have some insight on whether this is true or not, I’d really appreciate to hear about it from you.

Thanks again for any help that I may get here.

I have loads of respect for nurses, they have a hard job, but still many peeps are attracted to this job. I uncovered some good instruction on the website in the box below, it guided my sister to embark on the road to becoming a nurse, she is in her first semester of training now.

What’s the easy step, Do a LVN or attend Community College to get into nursing program?

Question by PNay: What’s the easy step, Do a LVN or attend Community College to get into nursing program?

Best answer:

Answer by ………………………………
It all depends on what college it is! Some LVN/LPN programs have a long wait list, so what would normally take 1 year without a waiting list, may now take 2 years.

The Associate Degree Nursing program to be an RN at some colleges only takes 2 1/2 years….others, like what I mentioned with LVN/LPN, may have a year or two wait list for the clinical phase.

It all depends on what you think is easier….as far as academics- obviously the technical certificate vocational/practical nursing would be easier.

What is the schooling like? What are the nuties of a nurse do you have to be excellent in science and math? To excel in this career? I want to work in health clinic if possible..

Best answer:

Answer by ckm1956
You’ll need either a 2 year community college degree, or a 4 year BSN degree. Neither are easy to get into.

Basic math is needed. For many, the hardest course (and the most important) is anatomy & physiology.

Good luck.

Remember that nurses are assistants to doctors basically. They need to know about the human body (biology) and how to take blood pressure and etc.

Nurses usually just prep the patient up for the doctor. If he/she needs to wear a gown, the urine sample, blood sample, and stuff like that, the nurses usually take care of that part.

Whats a better career Nurse or Police officer?

Question by usa_jcrew68: Whats a better career Nurse or Police officer?
I cant decide. There are many pros and cons to both careers. Both are messy and dangerous jobs. Both offer opportunities. You get more respect as a cop than a nurse. But nursing is more flexible. Nurse is higherpaying. Yet, nursing isnt easy job. Cops sit in cruisers 80% of time and do hard work 20% of time and make good money. Help me decide. Which career is better?

What’s the best college in the US you can go to study nursing?

Question by kk: What’s the best college in the US you can go to study nursing?
I need to know where I can apply!

Best answer:

Answer by slew
I don’t know about the best college to go for nursing, but my suggestion is don’t bother going there. Your better off going to a junior college if you want to be a nurse. The pay increase for a nurse with a Bachelors is not enough to justify paying the greater tuition. In California, were very desperate for nurses, so as long as the college is accreditted, we don’t really care that much. If you have doubts on nursing, or wan’t to learn more than get a bachelors.

What’s the best and easiest Registered Nurse job out there?

Question by **Bella**: What’s the best and easiest Registered Nurse job out there?
? with good pay?

Best answer:

Answer by Jill
“Best” and “Easiest” are things which are subject to personal opinion. There is no best and easiest. All jobs are potentially the best for the person who enjoys it and is the right fit for the job. No nursing jobs are “easy”. There are good days and bad. There are daily stresses and pressures and sometimes they are manageable and sometimes they don’t feel quite so manageable. It’s all about your attitude, your professionalism, and your willingness to work hard.

All RN jobs pay well enough. You will never get rich in nursing, but you will definitely be able to support a family and live relatively comfortably. Salaries can range anywhere from $ 40k to $ 120k depending on your level of education, years of work experience, and job position. CRNAs are the best paid at that $ 120k point, but that requires a MSN and several years of experience and being at the top of your game. If it were easy, every RN would do it. You can’t do it just for the love of the money. You’ll fail.
