Question by diamondblue81: What can a unlicensed nurse temporarily work as while waiting for the time to take the NCLEX exam?
I just recently graduated nursing and now I’m looking for a job that suits my skills and knowledge. I’ve just applied for NCLEX so that I can get my license, but would like to work while I’m waiting. What kind of jobs are available to me, related to my nursing skills and knowledge? Thanks and all answers are greatly appreciated.

In most cases employers will hire you to work while you wait to test, unless you don’t plan on testing for a long period of time. Most hospitals have orientation and training that can last a few months so that should give you time to test and receive your license.
Are you a CNA, you can always work as that.

After graduating from medical school one pursues a residency in a medical field. After completion of that one practices medicine as a medical doctor.
Your friend can not be a nurse. Nurses have degrees in nursing.

Question by georgiababy: How do jobs and school work in the military?
okay, i’m very interested in joining the military, not sure which branch. but i know i want to be a nurse most definitely. So, how exactly does things work..like join and they say you get trained for a job–are they talking about a job that has nothing to do with what you want to actually be (nurse)…or its training for a diff job that you will be preforming while you go to school for nursing? how does it exactly work?

Dunno about the rest, but the Navy lets you pick your field when you join… They have corpsmen, which are kind of a blend between a combat medic, nurse, and sometimes doctor… So you join, go to boot camp and then to corpsmen “A” school… Upon graduation, you go to whatever base/ship they tell you to.

I have been researching the possibility of going to nursing school. I am a single and really only have my living expenses to care for. My concern is attending school and finding employment that will be compatible to my goals(and can pay the bills). What are some good jobs to apply for? I am even willing to work at night.

CNA or nurse aide. Just keep in mind that you should work part-time while in school. Nursing school is a full-time job – there is a lot of outside work that needs to be done and tons of reading. CNA would put you in the medical field and you’d get to know how things are done by the nurses as your’e training to become a nurse.

Get a job that will make you tips and has flexible scheduling, like waitressing or delivering pizza. I would also recommend other health-care related jobs such as CNA, etc., but it might be harder to get the schedule you need, and the money isn’t all that great. Take out student loans if you have to supplement your income. It’s good debt, an investment in your future. It’s scary accumulating debt, but student loan debt is something you won’t regret once you’re working as an RN.

Question by Ogre: Why do doctors still need to take up Nursing to work as a Nurse?
I mean, if you’re a doctor, you already know what kind of job a nurse needs to do, right??

Answer by old_woman_84
Some might–but I would say the majority do not know what a nurse does. Sounds retarded but true. It would also depend on the type of doctor he was. A foot doctor–no–probably not. Surgeon–maybe not. A nurse needs a degree also–a nursing degree. The doctor might get straight As in the nursing classes but he still needs that degree.

Absolutely not! Doctors are trained very different from nurses, and patients benefit from the different training methods. Doctors are trained in the medical model, and are better able to focus on the medical problem while nurses are trained in the nursing model and are better able to manage the patient’s day to day habits, teaching, etc.
The jobs are quite different, and I feel very strongly that doctors should be required to take the nursing curriculum. Would you think it would be okay for a nurse to skip the first year or so of medical school? I think not.
