Question by mel: What jobs can a 16 year old get working at a hospital?
I’ve been looking into it and apparently 16-year-olds can have minor jobs at hospitals, i was just wondering what sort of jobs they could do? I’m looking into being a nurse when i get older and figured this would be good practice (:

Question by Robin Sparkles: Would a nurse practitioner working at Mass General Hospital make enough to live in Devonshire Apartments?
I got a job as a nurse practitioner at Mass Gen and I am looking for apartments. Is Devonshire way overpriced? It seems really luxurious.. would i be able to afford this? it’d be one bedroom or I’d have a roomate with a two bedroom. I wouldn’t get anything unecessary… but I want to live in the city and have a nice view of the city.

Absolutely! Any job in a healthcare environment will be helpful in preparation to be a nurse or any career in the healthcare field.
Being a housekeeper will provide you with a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the healthcare environment. Also, when you become a nurse, you will have a much deeper appreciation for the hard work that the housekeepers do!
Yes, you will be able to make a patient’s day brighter. I work at a hospital and know that housekeepers have an incredibly important job. A cheery hello while cleaning a room can have a big impact on a patient. Also…statistics show that patients will frequently open up and share information with housekeepers that they might not share with other members of the healthcare staff – like an abusive home situation. So, you see… ALL members of the team are important.

Question by Sandielynn: What other jobs can an LPN do besides working in a nursing home?
This is the only experience I have as a nurse, but I really want to do something else.
Best answer:
Answer by uncertain/what2do
LPNs are employed in a variety of other environments outside of long term care facilities. As an LPN I first worked in pediatric home health, which was fun but the pay in home health tends to be less that in nursing homes, at least where I lived. Another option that is often better paying is corrections, jails and prisons hire LPNs to triage immate medical complaints, administer medication and insulin, respond to emergencies, assist practitioners, administer and read TB skin tests, etc. Drug rehab facilities, assisted living, doctors offices, clinics, urgent care, and some health departments, hospitals, and schools hire LPNs as well.

I am trying to get in the RN program and I work right now as a CNA. I can work morning or night weekend or wekdays. My shifts are 12 hours and 3 days a week is full time but i am unscheduled. I get to make my own schedule. Maybe you should consider getting your CNA plus it open your eyes more about the nursing feild.

Absolutely, nurses are the backbone of the health care system. They are over worked and under appreciated. Working in this particular setting would help you develop patient skills that are indispensable in a hospital. Good luck.
