An office. It’s still very stressful, but its not as bad as the hospital. Try family practice or dermatology.

I want to be a pediatric nurse who works with terminally ill kids?

Question by Tori: I want to be a pediatric nurse who works with terminally ill kids?
Is there a specific job title for this? I’ve been trying to research this, such as salary, job conditions, education required, etc, but haven’t found anything specific enough. I would like to know what kind of tasks I would do in this job, such as administering medicines, etc. I want to be a pediatric nurse who works solely in hospitals, specifically with terminally ill patients, not in private practice or anywhere else. Any research or information at all would be helpful, since I don’t really know much about this. Thanks!

You would need a 4 year BSN to do this job. Palliative care nursing is the term for working with the terminally ill. You would just get your nursing degree and apply for a job on a pediatric ward. It may take some time and experience but you could eventually specialize in pediatric palliative care.
Duties would include personal care, administering medications, assessing the patients condition and response to treatment. You would also be responsible for communicating with the families and other members of the health care team. Besides taking care of the physical needs of the patient you would also be concerned with the emotional and spiritual needs as well.

Absolutely not. A registered nurse who works in an outpatient specialty clinic is someone who should be praised not devalued.
