Q&A: What are all of the states in which nurse practitioners can practice independently, without a physician?
Question by infinite_1: What are all of the states in which nurse practitioners can practice independently, without a physician?
I am looking for the list of states in which nurses can open their own office, without the need to practice with a physician.
I am also undecided on whether to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner or a family nurse practitioner. I would prefer psychiatric nurse practitioner but I feel there would be more opportunity in the area of family nurse practitioner. Does anyone have any future outlook statistics on these two areas?

I think the fields of family practice nurse practitioner and pediatric nurse practitioner probably have most promise in the short term. Here is a good article.
