Would a nurse practitioner working at Mass General Hospital make enough to live in Devonshire Apartments?

Question by Robin Sparkles: Would a nurse practitioner working at Mass General Hospital make enough to live in Devonshire Apartments?
I got a job as a nurse practitioner at Mass Gen and I am looking for apartments. Is Devonshire way overpriced? It seems really luxurious.. would i be able to afford this? it’d be one bedroom or I’d have a roomate with a two bedroom. I wouldn’t get anything unecessary… but I want to live in the city and have a nice view of the city.

The Dev is one of the most expensive buildings in that area. You pay an extraordinary amount for that view and location. (I have friends in the building, we’ve watched the 4th of July fireworks from there. It’s luxe.) Rents are about $ 3K a month for 1 bedrooms, more for the harbor side views and higher floors.

I looked at one a couple of years ago — an upper floor corner 2 bedroom with views of the harbor and the financial district, about $ 4500. I chose a quieter location in the Back Bay for half of that, with a lovely view of a formal garden. Views are wonderful, but you only end up admiring them for a small part of the time you live there. Go cheaper, eat out more.
